Our Author Panel is developing nicely.  We are up to a dozen authors on the panel with Jerry Spinelli, Eileen Spinelli, David L Harrison, Ellen Hopkins, Karma Wilson, Dianne Ochiltree, Diane Hearn, Kristin Clark Venuti, plus the four grest authors below.  If you have any questions for them, please use questions@yaagroup.com

sudipta3Sudipta Bardhan has written 18 nonfiction books for kids, but her five picture books are joys to read.  One may be sitting on your shelf –TIGHTROPE POPPY: the High-wire Pig . MINEOSAUR, THE HOG PRINCE, BALLOTS FOR BELVA: The True Story of a Woman’s Race for the Presidency, and her newest book FLYING EAGLE.

 Sudipta is a regular speaker at writers conferences.




Joyce Hostetter is the author of four historical fiction novels – BLUE, COMFORT, HEALING WATER and BEST FRIENDS FOREVER. 

She has taught special education in public schools, created & directed a thriving preschool program, taught homeschool support groups, directed camp drama for at-risk kids and has also, been published in newspapers, and magazines.



Wendy Mass is the author of eight novels for young people, including A Mango-Shaped Space (which was awarded the Schneider Family Book Award by the American Library Association), Leap Day, the Twice Upon a Time fairy tale series, and Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, which earned a starred review in Publishers Weekly magazine. Her most recent book is Heaven Looks a Lot Like the Mall.

11 Birthdays and Finally will be released by Scholastic in the first quarter of 2010.


Susan Heyboer O’Keefe is the author of sixteen published novels and picture books, including the middle grade novel DEATH BY EGGPLANT, the young adult novel MY LIFE AND DEATH BY ALEXANDRA CANARSIE, and the classic picture book ONE HUNGRY MONSTER.

Susan is under contract for her first Adult Novel, too.

Four more authors join the YAAGroup’s Author Panel. 

Jerry Spinelli – Author of MANIAC MAGEE, WRINGER, STARGIRL, MILKWEED, to name a few of his 26 books has agreed to join the author panel.

Eileen Spinelli – Author of 56 children’s books is a great addition to the panel. 

Ellen Hopkins –  Author of 26 children’s books.  Known for her NY Times Bestselling novels-in-verse.

Karma Wilson  – Author of 30 picture books.  She writes a Bear series published by Simon & Schuster.  Even if you are a teen, you should take a look at BEAR SNORES ON.  It can teach you a lot about writing in rhyme.

If you like to write poems and you know a little about Greek and Roman mythology and the Olympian gods, Tapestry of Bronze is having their Fall 2009 Contest.  The subject is Demeter, A.K.A – Ceres, the Goddess of the Harvest.

Submission Deadline: November 30, 2009.

E-mail your poem (no more than 30 lines) to the following address: tapestryofbronze@yahoo.com   

Do not e-mail any ATTACHMENTS! Paste the poem into the e-mail instead. Don’t get fancy with your formatting.  Don’t add pictures and only use standard fonts.  YAAGroupg member, you can find this information in the “Members Only” part of the www.Yaagroup.org site.

MAKE SURE your poem is about Demeter / Ceres. 

Please include your real name. Make sure we can respond to your e-mail. Please include your birthdate.

No cost enter, but you can only enter once.

The first prize winner in the Under 18 age group will receive $50. Honorable Mentions may be awarded as well, but without cash prizes.  If no poem is of sufficient quality, no prizes will be awarded.
